Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominantly in the water industry who have been awarded a programme of work to deliver non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects for United Utilities. They are recruiting for a Lead CAD Engineer to help deliver these projects. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out CAD Engineering related project work as part of this role (typically 50:50 CAD Lead : Project work ratio).
In addition to the project work, you will sit within the regional functional leadership team and support wider business improvement and integration. You will be responsible for the leadership of the discipline in region, ensuring that the discipline is the right size and shape and has the correct competencies and capacity in region. You will also ensure that the standard practices are applied in region and contribute to the development of the discipline.
Responsibilities- Provide line management, mentoring, training, development/succession plans for your direct reports. Look after their wellbeing (work perspective) including annual objectives setting, objectives progress monitoring, undertaking regular 1-2-1 conversations and recording outcomes.
- Manage the supply and demand of competent CAD Engineers for the region. This shall include growth planning and recruitment accordingly.
- Manage the region long-term and short-term resource forecasting.
- Allocation and co-ordination of drawing work undertaken by off-shore resources.
- Acts as Digital Delivery Champion within the Engineering Team.
- Work to systemic norms and company processes, procedures and guidance notes, and assist in developing these. Liaise with the Technology and Systems team aligned with the REL.
- Promote and maintain continuous improvement by managing regional processes, procedures and guidance notes in region as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with legal, company policy, regulatory and statutory obligations and requirements. Including the use of common, secure, information management systems.
- Ensure operational excellence. Evaluate our performance through monitoring, measuring, analysis and evaluation, customer satisfaction surveys, internal audits and management review and use this to continually improve.
- Carry out CAD audits and analyse results data to provide pinpointed improvements in the relevant areas. Drive an integrated design and build culture, value driven and client focused, into the CAD Engineering Team. Encourage great communication and awareness. Be present and be a presence.
- Design safe, buildable, operable solutions. Ensure technical and SHEQ governance. Help promote the right H&S 'Behaviour in Design'.
- Work to client framework Conditions of Contract and Work Order requirements.
- Experience in administrating and enforcing CAD standards across projects.
- Leadership and people management skills, including mentoring and succession planning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrable experience in resource planning and workload forecasting.
- Proficiency in Autodesk products, including:
- Revit
- AutoCAD (Plant 3D and P&ID)
- Navisworks
- Civil 3D
- Qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in the Water Industry or similar regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Construction Cloud and its workflows.
- Knowledge of Bentley ProjectWise for document and data management.
- Strong understanding of Revit templates and family creation for standardisation.
