Simpler Recycling will transform how Mansfield residents use waste and recycling services. We are seeking a proactive Project Officer to turn new legislative requirements into practical, well‑managed service improvements, including changes to recycling collections, the introduction of food waste collections and resident education campaigns.

About the role

Reporting to the Waste Services and Fleet Manager, you will lead assigned projects from planning through to completion and manage a team of four officers. You will develop project and communication plans, monitor progress, maintain clear documentation and coordinate colleagues and partner organisations to secure the right expertise and resources.

You will ensure delivery meets legislative, health and safety, financial and Council requirements. The role also includes supporting procurement, contracts and agreements; chairing project meetings; preparing reports for different audiences; monitoring performance; and applying lessons learned to improve future delivery. You will promote digital working, value for money and high‑quality customer service throughout.

About you

You will have proven experience within waste services and a strong operational understanding of Simpler Recycling legislation. You will be confident managing competing priorities, analysing problems, interpreting performance information and working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.

You will also need experience of undertaking and applying risk assessments, knowledge of current health and safety legislation, and good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and complex software packages such as Whitespace. Strong communication, decision‑making and project‑management skills are essential, together with the ability to deliver at pace while maintaining quality and control.

Applicants must hold a relevant degree, or a relevant Level 5 qualification supported by significant experience in a similar environment, and a full UK driving licence.

Why Apply?

The role offers the opportunity to lead the practical implementation of Simpler Recycling reform, directly influencing how residents are supported to recycle and dispose of waste sustainably. You will have responsibility for significant projects, lead a team of four officers and work across the Council and with partners to turn legislation into workable, well‑governed services.
