Responsibilities
- Provide science-informed advice and lead post-incident reviews and learning.
- Integrate hazard assessments, modelling and risk frameworks into planning.
- Lead development, review and delivery of the Canterbury CDEM Group plan.
- Support the wider CDEM group in understanding and responding to complex, evolving hazards by translating science and evidence into effective plans, policies and programmes across the 4R’s: Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery.
- Participate in the Group Emergency Management Office Duty Officer roster on a 4‑6 week cycle.
Qualifications
- A tertiary qualification in hazard or environment science, planning, emergency management, geography, public policy or a related field.
- A strong understanding of natural hazards, risk and resilience concepts, and how scientific information informs public policy and planning within the CDEM system.
- Experience translating technical, scientific or analytical information into clear, practical advice, plans or policies for diverse audiences.
- Significant experience (5‑7 years) working in a complex environment where hazards, risk, policy and/or emergency management systems intersect.
- The ability to fulfil a response role in the Canterbury CDEM Group Emergency Coordination Centre during an emergency.
