About the role

The Senior Land Manager will play a leading role in the creation and management of Habitat Banks on a regional basis. Reporting to the Head of Land (South), the Senior Land Manager will be responsible for driving the delivery of new Habitat Bank sites through identifying suitable land opportunities, collaborating with landowners and agents, and overseeing the process of onboarding land for Habitat Bank creation. It is important that you live in the South of England to cover the sites easily - Oxford, Northampton or Reading would all be ideal. The role requires effective communication, collaboration with internal teams, and engagement with external stakeholders such as farmers, landowners, and Local Authorities.

Key responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Head of Land (South) and work closely with members of the regional Land and Ecology Teams.
  • Assist regional Land Managers within the broader Land Team.
  • Identify and onboard new land opportunities to develop Habitat Banks by engaging with landowners and agents.
  • Prioritise the establishment of Habitat Banks based on the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) demand from Local Authorities and known purchaser interest, incorporating feedback from sales and finance teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external property contacts, including agents and landowners, to pursue opportunities for the company.
  • Proactively search for sites in targeted locations by conducting detailed land assessments to find sites that align with the company’s requirements.
  • Lead and carry out comprehensive due diligence to evaluate site suitability for Habitat Bank development, coordinating with internal teams such as ecology, habitat delivery, legal, and finance.
  • Manage and oversee the planning and consenting procedures necessary for habitat creation.
  • Prepare and negotiate offers with landowners based on internal evaluations and insights gained from site visits.
  • Ensure a smooth process for landowners by clearly communicating contractual terms and maintaining close collaboration with the Head of Land for the relevant region and colleagues in the Land and Ecology Teams.
  • Take part in regional and national marketing events to promote Environment Bank and the concept of Habitat Bank creation to farmers and landowners.

What we need from you:

  • Experience of working directly with farmers and landowners, in a professional capacity.
  • MRICS/CAAV or relevant professional qualifications are essential in this role.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Farm Business Tenancies and relevant environmental matters related to rural land management.
  • Proven ability of using Land Registry and other publicly available legal and land management data sources.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including the ability to present to groups and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Organised and self-starting, capable of managing personal schedule, maintaining records, and prioritising tasks effectively.
  • Full UK clean driving license and willingness to travel for regional site visits and events.
  • Numerate and computer literate with a strong understanding of data analysis and manipulation.
