The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and inspirational Engineering Team Leader to manage a highly specialist team of MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation) engineers. You will lead and develop the team to deliver technical activities that support maintenance, refurbishment and new‑build projects across a diverse and complex asset base.
The role has a clear strategic focus. You will contribute to asset, maintenance and investment strategies, using performance data and risk‑based thinking to improve reliability, resilience and value for money, while supporting improvement initiatives and leading change across the MEICA portfolio.
You will be accountable for planning and delivering maintenance activities through a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) and responding effectively to equipment failures, working closely with maintenance framework partners. You will provide strong technical and people leadership, ensuring all MEICA activities meet required technical, safety, legal, environmental and operational standards.
Covering a wide geographical area and varied range of assets, the role requires balancing day‑to‑day operational delivery with longer‑term objectives. You will be part of a national community of practice, working with peers and assurance teams to share learning and drive continuous improvement.
Responding to incidents is a key part of the role. You will hold an incident role and provide business continuity support when required (training and support provided).
What you’ll bring
Proven MEICA engineering experience, with team leadership responsibility
Strong technical judgement and understanding of safety and compliance
Experience managing maintenance using a CMMS
Ability to contribute to strategic planning and improvement
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, proactive approach
