Job Purpose
The Driving Standards Manager is a key operational role at the forefront of our business. You will be expected to make decisions based on knowledge, experience, industry and company operational codes of practice. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining & measuring safety critical & competency management systems. This will include minimising operational incidents and accidents, by formulating methodologies based on lessons learned & industry good practice.

- Previous Line Management Supervisory Experience
- Minimum of 5 years Train Driving Experience
Technical Skills
- Competent IT skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Holder of PTS
- Extensive experience of train operation principles
- Current holder of train driver rules and regulations
- Detailed knowledge of Rules and Regulations published as Railway Group Standards
- Ability to attain Train Operations Liaison Officer (TOLO)
- Understanding of company's obligations in relation to ROGS
- Understanding of the new digital railway

Responsibilities & Duties
- The assessment of driving performances against relevant standards of competence.
- Direct the driving and operations teams to develop and deliver programmes of work, safely, on time and to budget in line with objectives.
- Establish a commercially sustainable delivery programme that is both customer service focused and forward looking of train driving and focused on the efficient achievement of Harsco Rail's objectives.
- Develop, motivate and monitor the driving team and managers so that there are adequate, qualified and trained resources available to deliver a flexible, competent, skilled and effective work programme.
- Implement the selection, recruitment and training of train driver's processes.
- Implement and maintain the train driver’s specific processes, such as Specially Monitored Driver and seasonal driving techniques.
- Undertake incident investigation, when remitted by Designated Competent Person.
- Implement the process and organisation of ETCS training within the business.
- Identify and implement quality and efficiency improvement initiatives and lead and inspire the team to maintain full engagement in meeting business objectives.
- Implement and adhere to company procedures to provide appropriate resources, communication strategies, training, competence and evaluate fitness of staff to safely deliver their accountabilities.
- Work closely with the training and operations teams to deliver the required training and assessments to ensure compliance is met.
- Utilise your skills and experience to deliver a safe reliable railway.
- The ability to identify factors which could impair driving performance and assess the likely effects of such factors.
- Developing company procedures in response to operational related standards.
- Act as the 'Lead Investigator' should the need be required.
- Carry out risk assessments as necessary.
- Able to carry out on call duties as required.

- Inform your line manager, supervisor or health and safety representative of any unsafe occurrences.
- Report all, and assist with investigating relevant accidents, incidents and near misses.
