Job Purpose
- Carry out scheduled maintenance activities in line with the VMI requirements.
- Complete daily repairs and inspections on the Rail Grinder fleet.
- Be competent in Grinder maintenance, repairs & fault finding.
- Maximise machine availability.
Key Result Areas
- Undertake duties in line with agreed roster.
- Maintain competency in line with role requirement.
- Report any defects found on machine & carry out repairs within required competency level for the role, as directed.
- Performance of machine following the completion of maintenance tasks.
- Responsible for the overall machine condition including documentation, tooling, spare parts, consumables, safety equipment, waste disposal and your PPE.
- Compliance with all company policies & procedures, including Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental.
- Utilise IT equipment provided to update and access Apps and Programs associated with your role (FAMS, Q-Pulse etc).
- Engage with your Line Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Professional qualifications needed to enable key activities to be achieved.
- Fully qualified Day Maintainer Track safety qualification.
- PTS DP.
- Mandatory qualifications: Any other H&S requirements as identified for the role.

Responsibilities & Duties
- Work with Line Manager to maximise machine availability and reliability.
- Undertake training and gain new competency as directed by your Line Manager.
- Undertake maintenance activities in accordance with the Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI).
- Manage VMI schedules and machine repairs using Network Rails Fleet Asset Management System (FAMS).
- Assist Grinder Support Technician with required tasks.
- Operate machine for maintenance purposes.
- Engage with your Line Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain regular contact with Control Centre.
- Ensure company vehicle is kept to required standards as per HR/ADV/H/G/004.
- Attend meetings as required by Line Manager.
- Provide reports and information as requested by Line Manager.
- Liaise with internal departments, the customer, other NWR departments and 3rd party contractors as required.
- Comply with all statutory and company policies and procedures.
- Flexible to work on other machines as directed by your Line Manager.
- Travel and lodge in line with role requirements and as directed by Line Manager.
- Report accidents, incidents and problems to Control and your Line Manager in a timely manner.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts and omissions at work.
- Contribute to the delivery of company occupational health and welfare, safety and environmental improvement plans, and brief staff as required.
- Only undertake work for which you have been trained and (if required) certified competent.
- Comply with and update as requested, Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Safe Systems of Work.
- Maintain and utilise all PPE provided by the employer.
- Co-operate with your employer on health, safety and environment.
- Make safe any unsafe conditions where practicable and challenge unsafe work practices.
- Inform your Line Manager or Health and Safety representative of any unsafe occurrences.
- Report and assist when requested, with the investigations of accidents, incidents and near misses.
