The Electrical Field Service Engineer will be responsible for the commissioning, maintenance and repair of AC Chargers, Rapid DC, Ultra and High-Power Charging (HPC) EV Chargers across sites in the UK. This role is suited to someone with a strong electrical background who can work independently and deliver high-quality technical support on-site. You will ensure that all EV charging stations operate at peak performance and meet the high standards of our company and clients. This role will require someone who is comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor sites and confined spaces. Occasional travel and overnight stays will be required.
Job Requirements
- Level 3 Electrical Qualification
- AM2 certification
- Minimum 3 years' experience in commercial/industrial electrical installations or maintenance
- BS7671- IET Wiring Regulations Current 18th Edition
- City & Guilds 2391-52 Inspection & Testing
- Valid JIB Gold Card
- Familiarity with basic test and measurement equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and repair complex technical issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while travelling between client sites.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a field service role, preferably in the EV charging, renewable energy or power electronics sectors.
- EV charging station certification or manufacturer-specific training is a plus.
- Hands‐on experience with commissioning, maintaining and repairing Rapid DC, Ultra and HPC EV chargers.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals.
- A good understanding of basic analogue & digital electronics and components.
- An appreciation of electrical hazards and on‐site H&S requirements.
Job Responsibilities
- Commissioning of EV Chargers: Commission and configure AC and Rapid DC chargers at client sites. Conduct initial set up and testing to ensure correct operation and compliance with industry standards. Collaborate with the project management and installation teams to ensure seamless integration of charging stations with client infrastructure.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on EV charging stations to ensure optimal performance and uptime. Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including electrical, mechanical and software‐related problems. Conduct diagnostic tests, firmware updates and calibration of EV chargers as necessary. Replace faulty components and occasionally entire AC chargers. Ensure that all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacture guidelines.
- Customer Support: Provide on‐site technical support and training to clients on the use and operation of EV chargers. Respond to service requests promptly and maintain effective communication with clients to ensure customer satisfaction. Document all service activities, including repairs, maintenance and customer interactions in the service management system.
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while working in the field. Ensure compliance with local electrical codes and standards during commissioning and maintenance activities. Participate in regular safety training and certifications as required.
