We are looking for a talented Tendering & Design Engineer to join our team, leading on the design and development of electrical infrastructure projects across the UK. The Tendering & Design Engineer will have overall responsibility for creating designs for new electrical infrastructure projects within their allocated business unit. They must ensure that all designs meet client requirements, eliminate as much risk as possible (commercial, environmental and safety) and that any remaining risks are clearly communicated to the Project Manager responsible for the delivery of the onsite works. You will liaise with multidisciplinary teams, conduct site assessments and ensure that all projects adhere to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance with UK regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering principles, with experience in creating designs for new electrical infrastructure projects.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Power Engineering or similar or have completed an industry‑recognised qualification (HNC/HND) and/or hold a minimum 3 years’ experience designing OHL / Underground / Substation infrastructure.
- Minimum Experience of 3 years as a Design Engineer or similar.
- Experience in EV designs or similar.
- Capable of managing clients and leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Valid UK Driving Licence.
- Ability to use AutoCAD.
- Relevant experience in the UK market within the last 5 years with a DNO, IDNO or ICP.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it is highly desirable.
- Experience in electrical OM or similar software like Amtech.
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out preliminary site assessments and create initial design concepts in line with client requirements for feasibility and tender stages.
- Produce costings from an established master BOQ in collaboration with the estimating team and in line with feasibility designs for client validation and acceptance.
- Develop electrical designs for electrical construction projects, including layout, power requirements, and safety features.
- Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Liaise with design partners to attain accompanying construction designs relevant to the specific project; architectural, civil, specialist etc.
- Develop detailed construction packs incorporating in‑house designs with external partner designs to provide a full construction design pack for delivery.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure that works are designed to minimise risks during the construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning/demolition phases.
- Ensure that all designs meet regulatory, statutory, client and industry requirements.
- Monitoring project costs through pre‑construction phase ensuring adherence to budget and variation management.
- Lead effective communication with clients, asset owners, partners and design partners.
- Ensure the company is compliant in all aspects of accreditation schemes held.
- Eliminate as much risk as possible (commercial, environmental and safety) and that any remaining risks are clearly communicated to the Project Manager responsible for the works via site specific risk register.
