As a Telescopic / FLT Driver at Enva’s Stourbridge eWaste site, you will safely operate telescopic handlers and forklift trucks to move small domestic appliance (SDA) waste and recover materials through the processing line. Working within your training and site authorisation, you will receive, position and feed suitable materials, maintain a consistent flow through the plant, maximise material recovery and maintain quality standards, supporting Enva’s commitment to safe, environmentally responsible recycling and a circular economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Material Movement and Handling: Use telescopic handlers and forklift trucks to receive, unload, move and position SDA waste, containers and recovered materials between designated storage areas and the processing line. Inspect materials and segregate unsuitable items in accordance with site procedures, using only equipment and attachments for which you are trained and authorised.
  • Plant Feeding and Processing: Feed suitable SDA waste into the processing line using the authorised telescopic handler and approved attachments, maintaining a controlled, consistent supply in line with operating procedures and supervisor instructions. Coordinate material movements with the processing team to prevent overfeeding, minimise downtime and keep designated access routes clear. Report unsuitable items, blockages and feeding issues promptly.
  • Equipment Checks and Operation: Complete and record pre-use checks on telescopic handlers, forklift trucks and attachments; report defects promptly and do not use unsafe equipment. Operate within the equipment’s rated capacity and site traffic rules, maintaining pedestrian segregation. Operate designated conveyors or processing equipment only where separately trained and authorised; follow site isolation procedures and never attempt to clear machinery while it is running.
  • Quality Control: Check incoming SDA materials and recovered materials against site acceptance and quality requirements. Segregate recovered material streams as instructed, identify contamination or unsuitable items and report discrepancies to your supervisor.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all site health, safety and environmental procedures, including requirements for PPE, manual handling, machinery safety and pollution prevention. Report hazards, incidents, leaks, spills and equipment defects immediately.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with processing operatives and supervisors to meet daily production targets safely. Provide clear shift handovers covering material availability, equipment condition and operational issues to support continuity across all three shifts.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organised working environment, ensuring work areas are free of hazards.

This role is primarily focused on telescopic handler and forklift truck operations, moving SDA waste and recovered materials through the processing line at the Stourbridge eWaste site. However, you may also be required to support other operational areas of the site in line with business needs, provided you have received the appropriate training and authorisation.

Additional Information:

  • New, full-time position based at Stourbridge.
  • The operation provides 24-hour cover Monday to Friday across three shifts: 6am–2pm, 2pm–10pm and 10pm–6am.
  • Rate of pay: £14.49 per hour. The night shift (10pm–6am) attracts an additional £1.00 per hour, giving a night-shift rate of £15.49 per hour.
  • Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust and moving machinery.
  • PPE will be provided and must be worn at all times.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Previous experience in a recycling, waste or industrial environment desirable.
  • Essential: Demonstrable competence and practical experience operating telescopic handlers and forklift trucks for material movement and plant feeding, with training appropriate to the equipment and attachments used.
  • Good awareness of health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in sorting and identifying materials.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Essential: A current telescopic handler operator training certificate/card for the relevant machine category, such as CPCS, NPORS or equivalent evidence of training and competence accepted by Enva.
  • Essential: A forklift truck operator training certificate for the truck type used on site, with evidence of appropriate assessment and any required refresher training. Certificates and tickets will be checked before operation.
  • Before operating independently, complete site induction, specific job and familiarisation training, any necessary conversion or attachment training, and a site competence assessment, and obtain Enva’s authorisation for each equipment type. A ticket or certificate alone does not authorise site operation.
  • Desirable: Relevant waste/recycling or plant operations qualification and previous training in workplace transport safety, manual handling and fire awareness.
  • Licences: Operator training certificates are not a general driving licence. Any public-road driving duties would require the appropriate driving entitlement and separate confirmation of vehicle and operational requirements before being undertaken.
