The Team Lead will assist in the day-to-day processing operations across various activities. This is a hands-on role requiring a flexible, proactive, and versatile approach, with a firm “no compromise” attitude toward health and safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and motivating staff to achieve daily production targets while maintaining high standards of quality control on all sorted and recovered materials. You will ensure consistent performance within the team, promoting safe and efficient working practices at all times. Previous experience in assisting with the management of people is essential. Basic mechanical knowledge for maintaining a processing plant in a manufacturing environment would be advantageous. Experience in production operations, ideally within waste processing or a similar industry, is desirable; however, full training and development will be provided to candidates who demonstrate the right skills, attitude, and aptitude to succeed in this challenging and rewarding role. Please note this is a night shift position, working Monday to Thursday.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Efficiency: Ensure the site plant and equipment operate to maximum efficiency in a safe and controlled manner. Formally record all operations.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all operators, contractors, and visitors adhere to company safety systems. Comply with all safety instructions and procedures, reporting any unsafe practices, accidents, or incidents through Assure. Monitor and develop health and safety within the site, ensuring best practices and compliance. Ensure appropriate traffic management controls are in place and followed.
- Team Management: Support Plant Supervisor to maintain adequate staffing levels on-site and ensure all shifts are suitably covered. Collaborate with hiring agency effectively to meet business needs and maximise the utilisation of semi-skilled agency labour.
- Flexibility: Be available and flexible towards working hours to ensure continuous site operations day and night.
- Incident Reporting: Promptly report incidents, emergencies, or repairs to the Site/Engineering Manager to minimise disruption.
- Plant Operations: Ensure process plant and equipment operate safely, effectively, and efficiently during the shift period. Monitor plant setups and ensure products meet agreed specifications. Assist with the general operation of the processing plant as required.
- Site Cleanliness and Maintenance: Maintain the highest cleanliness standards in all working areas. Ensure the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as provided by the Company. Ensuring that all plant is maintained in a clean condition. Any defect affecting the safe working order of a machine is to be reported immediately.
- Record Keeping: Complete all allocated paperwork and maintain accurate records. Maintain true and accurate records of materials recycled to maximise recycling levels within safe systems of work.
- Waste Management: Organise waste removal in compliance with management instructions and Site Licence requirements.
- Health and Safety Culture: Foster a culture of proactive health and safety management through GO reporting.
- Additional Duties: Carry out other operational tasks within capability or for which appropriate training has been received. Assist with weighbridge operations, ensuring waste received complies with the Site Licence and reporting any exceptions as per procedure.
48 hours per week Nightshift Mon-Thurs 6 pm-7 am Night Allowance of £0.50p/hr Overtime available.
