We're looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Plant Operator to join our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) team. In this role, you'll be responsible for operating plant and machinery used to sort, process, and prepare recyclable materials, ensuring the facility runs safely, efficiently, and to the highest operational standards.
Working as part of a busy operations team, you'll help maximise recycling rates, maintain material quality, and support the smooth day-to-day running of the plant. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced industrial environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate plant and equipment including conveyors, shredders, balers, screens, and sorting systems.
- Monitor equipment performance, identify faults, and report defects promptly.
- Ensure recyclable materials are processed efficiently and contamination is minimised.
- Carry out routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, keeping work areas clean, safe, and organised.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Wear and maintain the correct PPE at all times.
- Record production data, downtime, and operational issues accurately.
- Communicate effectively during shift handovers and report any safety or operational concerns.
