All potential candidates should read through the following details of this job with care before making an application. Our Engineering Manager is responsible for optimising plant availability across 2 sites in Nottingham and Leicester to ensure we can efficiently deliver our material processing targets. You will be an expert in practical problem solving and continuous improvement, balancing the demands of operational throughput with plant availability, using our Shire pre-planned maintenance system and coordinating engineering activities to improve our plant. You will lead, motivate and manage a team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers, supported by 3rd party contractors as appropriate, driving a continuous improvement culture within the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that you and your team only work safely, implementing and maintaining 5S disciplines across our sites.
  • Comply with all appropriate Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) legislation and policies and use a red-tag process as appropriate where machinery is defective.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing maintenance team that delivers against agreed objectives, best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Manage 3rd party contractors, ensuring compliance with site induction, permit to work and delivery against agreed work plans.
  • Devise and manage the Engineering Budget, capex and monthly spend in line with agreed parameters.
  • Draft Risk Assessments / Method Statements / Safe Working procedures with appropriate training and competency validation.
  • Optimise Pre‑Planned Preventative Maintenance, refurbishment and replacement of process equipment as appropriate.
  • Deliver Reliability‑Centred Maintenance strategy derived from OEM recommendations, in‑service failure diagnosis and PPM frequency and continuously review asset performance to eliminate/reduce mechanical or electrical failures.
  • Manage the procurement of all spare parts ensuring minimum stock levels for identified critical items to avoid production losses through lack of availability of parts and financial write‑downs, consignment stock and rebate opportunities to minimise maintenance spend whilst not reducing quality or reliability.
  • Manage statutory plant inspections and ensure any non‑conformances and opportunities for improvement are addressed promptly.
  • Optimise Mobile plant availability, liaise with OEMs to agree repairs/costs/actions for lease and owned equipment and manage the asset replacement schedules.
  • Develop energy efficiency procurement and plant modification plans to reduce energy consumption.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Previous experience as an Engineering Manager within a recycling facility or similar batch processing environment with heavy industrial equipment.
  • HNC – either Electrical or Mechanical.
  • Demonstrable experience with 5S, continuous improvement tools and CMMS (ideally SHIRE but also FMEA, FTA, SMED) to optimise and improve plant availability and reduce energy consumption.
  • Demonstrable experience with electrical systems / plant automation controls and sequencing.
  • Project Management including the delivery of major capex projects using AutoCAD.
  • Experience in technical and practical problem‑solving.
  • Demonstrable history of leading, coaching and developing a multi‑skilled, multi‑site engineering team.
  • Commercial Acumen.

  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • Experience of Lean & CI techniques.
  • Experience working within a Heavy Industry.

Location: Nottingham

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full Time, 45hrs per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: circa £55,000 - £60,000 per annum
