The postholder will safely operate a REL Bin Lorry (Class 2) whilst actively participating in the collection of commercial, industrial and recyclable waste.
Working as part of an REL collection crew, the role is responsible for delivering a safe, efficient and customer-focused waste collection service, ensuring compliance with all transport legislation, health and safety requirements, and company procedures.
The postholder will represent Irish Waste professionally within the community and contribute to high-quality service delivery and environmentally responsible waste management.

Key Responsibilities
- Driving & Collection Operations
- Safely operate a Class 2 (Category C) REL Bin Lorry to complete daily waste and recycling collection routes.
- Work as part of an operational team alongside REL Bin Lorry Assistants to deliver a safe, efficient and high-quality collection service.
- Carry out all duties associated with the collection of commercial, industrial and recyclable waste from businesses, retail premises, schools and other designated collection points.
- Operate REL lifting mechanisms, bin loading equipment and associated vehicle systems in accordance with training and company procedures.
- Assist with the handling, lifting and movement of wheelie bins and waste containers where operationally required, ensuring safe manual handling practices at all times.
- Ensure waste is collected, transported and disposed of safely and in accordance with company procedures and environmental regulations.
- Conduct pre-use and post-use vehicle inspections and complete all relevant documentation in line with company and legislative requirements.
- Complete daily route sheets, vehicle inspection reports and digital records accurately and on time.
- Report vehicle defects, equipment faults and operational issues immediately.
- Maintain the cleanliness, roadworthiness and presentation of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all Road Traffic Legislation, Driver Hours Regulations, Tachograph Regulations and Working Time requirements.
- Comply fully with all relevant health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, company policies and safe systems of work.
- Follow site-specific risk assessments, method statements and operational procedures.
- Wear and maintain all PPE provided and promote a positive safety culture within the collection crew.
- Report accidents, incidents, hazards, near misses and defects promptly.
- Maintain a clean, safe and tidy working environment and deal with spillages or obstructions as required.
- Ensure safe manual handling practices are followed at all times.
- Customer Service
- Represent Enva professionally when interacting with customers and members of the public.
- Deliver a courteous, professional and customer-focused service at all times.
- Respond appropriately to customer queries and escalate concerns where necessary.
- Ensure collections are completed to agreed service standards and report any service issues promptly.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with the Operations Team to maximise route efficiency and service performance.
- Support wider Environmental Cleansing operations as required.
- Assist with recycling and resource recovery initiatives where required.
- Participate in training and development activities to maintain competence, compliance and operational effectiveness.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
- Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC Card.
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Experience driving large goods vehicles.
- Ability to safely operate an REL Bin Lorry and associated lifting equipment.
- Good understanding of transport legislation and safe driving practices.
- Ability to carry out physically demanding work in all weather conditions.
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work early starts.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service while representing the company.
Desirable
- Previous experience within waste collection, recycling, environmental services or commercial wheelie bin collection operations.
- Experience operating REL Bin Lorries or other specialist waste collection vehicles.
- ADR Certification.
- Knowledge of recycling and waste management processes.
- Experience working in a customer-facing operational environment.
