The Baler Operative is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of baling equipment used in the processing of recyclable materials.

The role ensures materials are sorted, compacted, stored, and prepared for dispatch in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate baling machinery safely and efficiently to process recyclable materials.
  • Monitor baler performance and report any faults, damage, or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure all bales are produced to required specifications, including weight, density, and quality standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections and basic housekeeping around the baling area.
  • Remove contamination from materials where required to maintain product quality.
  • Maintain accurate production records and complete operational paperwork as required.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials using authorised equipment.
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
  • Follow all site procedures, safe systems of work, and environmental regulations.
  • Support other operational activities across the site as directed by management.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve production targets and site objectives.
  • Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental incidents immediately.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
  • Comply with all Enva Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies.
  • Wear and maintain required PPE at all times.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Take reasonable care for personal safety and the safety of others.
  • Ensure all waste handling activities comply with environmental legislation and company procedures

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Good understanding of health and safety practices in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production targets.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Flexible approach to work and shift patterns.

Desirable

  • Previous experience operating balers or recycling processing equipment.
  • Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
  • Experience within the waste management, recycling, or manufacturing sector.
  • Knowledge of recyclable material grades and contamination standards.
