This role has been created as part of the continued expansion of the Perth site, driven by an increase in Small Domestic Appliance (SDA) tonnage being processed. To support this growth, additional pre-pick shifts have been introduced, requiring enhanced supervision and coordination to maintain safe and efficient operations.
As a Pre-Pick Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day coordination of pre‑pick operations, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant sorting of Small Domestic Appliances (SDA) and associated materials. You will support a team of operatives to ensure consistent material flow into processing areas, maintaining quality standards and minimising contamination. This role plays a key part in delivering production targets, health & safety compliance, and operational efficiency, supporting overall site performance and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Team Supervision: Support and coordinate pre-pick operatives to ensure safe and effective operations across the shift.
- Operational Oversight: Monitor pre-pick lines to ensure correct sorting and segregation of SDA materials and efficient feed into downstream processes.
- Productivity & Targets: Manage daily output, ensuring team performance aligns with site targets and operational requirements.
- Quality Control: Ensure materials are accurately identified and segregated, reducing contamination and supporting downstream processing efficiency.
- Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Promote a strong safety culture across the team; ensure adherence to safe systems of work; report and escalate any hazards, near misses or incidents.
- Training & Development: Support the onboarding and ongoing training of operatives, ensuring competency in roles and safe working practices.
- Shift Coordination: Allocate tasks and manage workflow across the team to maintain productivity and minimise downtime.
- Communication: Act as a key link between operatives and site management, providing updates on performance, issues and operational improvements.
- Housekeeping: Ensure pre-pick areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, organisation and safety.
This role is primarily focused on pre-pick operations; however, you may be required to support other areas of the site in line with business needs and where appropriately trained.
Job Requirements- Full-time role based in Perth.
- Shift pattern: 4 on / 4 off rotational shift (4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on, 4 days off).
- £16.00 (Dependent on training and experience).
- Additional £1.00 per hour for night shifts.
- Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust and moving machinery; PPE will be provided and must be worn at all times.
- Previous experience supervising pre-pick, sorting line or similar recycling operations is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in a team leader or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental standards.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Good decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
