The Driver/Loader will be responsible for the collection, loading, and safe transportation of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) across various locations in the UK. This role requires a reliable individual with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and adherence to safety protocols. The successful candidate will ensure that all collections are performed efficiently and in accordance with legal and company guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driving and Collection: Operate company vehicles to collect WEEE waste from various commercial, industrial, HRW Sites and residential locations nationwide. Follow planned routes and schedules provided by the operations team. Ensure safe loading, securing, and unloading of WEEE waste to avoid damage and maintain compliance with safety standards. Perform daily vehicle inspections and ensure the vehicle is in good working order before beginning the route.
  • Loading and Unloading: Manually or mechanically load and unload WEEE waste, ensuring all items are handled safely and efficiently. Use appropriate handling equipment such as trolleys, pallet trucks, and tail lifts to assist with loading/unloading operations. Sort and segregate WEEE waste as necessary to comply with recycling and disposal regulations.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all legal requirements concerning the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous WEEE waste. Maintain a high standard of health and safety practices, ensuring the safety of yourself, colleagues, and the public. Complete all necessary paperwork, including waste transfer notes and vehicle logbooks, accurately and promptly.
  • Customer Service: Interact professionally and courteously with customers at collection points. Address any customer queries or concerns in a helpful manner, escalating issues to management if necessary. Ensure timely collections and inform the operations team of any delays or issues encountered on the route.
  • Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with the operations team to optimise routes and improve collection efficiency. Monitor and report any operational issues, such as vehicle defects or route challenges, to the relevant department for resolution. Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and stay up to date with industry standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Full-time role based in Perth.
  • 41.15 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
  • Work environment is predominantly in a warehouse or processing facility.
  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualifications: Full Class 1 and 2 driving licence, Valid DCPC, Valid Digital Tachograph.
  • Technical Competencies: Able to competently and safely operate assigned vehicles.
  • Behavioural Competencies: Essential: Willingness to perform a wide range of duties, whilst maintaining a high level of professionalism, Excellent communication skills, Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Desirable: A strong commitment to environmental responsibility, Dependable, with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, Flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to work overtime or weekends as required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in waste collection, logistics, or a related field is desirable. Knowledge of WEEE waste regulations and handling procedures is an advantage.
  • Physical Demands: Good physical fitness and the ability to handle heavy loads. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
