My client is a leading provider of product development, procurement and packaging services, supporting leading brands and manufacturers worldwide to bring health foods and supplements products to life whilst navigating the commercial aspects of getting products to market.
As part of their next growth phase, they are looking for an experienced packaging technologist.
The ideal candidate will have experience of leading the end-to-end packaging function - from artwork creation and technical specifications through supplier relationships and logistical planning, to deliver outstanding packaging solutions for their expanding range of nutritional and wellness products.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, working closely with NPD, Design, Procurement, Operations, Quality & Technical teams to solve packaging challenges across new product developments and repeat production orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Packaging Materials & Print Expertise
- Provide specialist knowledge on packaging substrates and print requirements for sachets, pouches, cartons, cans, bottles and other formats.
- Ensure packaging design meets functional, cost, brand and regulatory requirements.
- Work with suppliers to test materials and prototypes as part of NPD and production validation.
- Supplier Management & Cost Negotiation
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with print houses and packaging manufacturers.
- Negotiate cost, lead times, minimum order quantities and quality expectations.
- Track packaging supplier performance and resolve issues quickly.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
· Partner with New Product Development (NPD) to
- Engage with clients to advise on packaging feasibility and innovative solutions for incoming briefs.
- Determine packaging specifications and sizing requirements.
- Liaise with partner manufacturers to review logistics, outer packaging requirements, and technical considerations for new or bespoke packaging formats.
- Work closely with Design to translate branded concepts into production artwork and specifications.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Operations to align packaging sourcing, forecasting, lead times and stock levels.
- Support Quality & Technical, ensuring packaging meets compliance and quality standards, including attending packaging manufacturing site visits and approving first-off-the-press physical samples.
