Overview

Mechanical Engineer – Rotating Technology. A unique opportunity to take full ownership of the thermomechanical analysis and design of the rotating components within a micro-gas turbine. You\’ll be joining a high-calibre engineering team at the forefront of advanced turbine technology, where your expertise in rotor dynamics will directly shape performance and reliability.

From initial concept through to build and test, you\’ll be the key technical voice guiding design decisions and ensuring the integrity of every rotating system.

This fast-growing Cambridge-based company is leading innovation in micro gas turbines and other bleeding-edge technologies, offering the chance to directly influence the future of aerospace engineering.

You\’ll act as the specialist in rotor dynamics, helping to solve complex challenges such as vibration, shaft flexibility, and balancing issues. With a background in mechanical design and rotating machinery, you\’ll bring strong expertise in thermomechanical analysis and rotor dynamics. Experience with high-speed balancing would be a distinct advantage, but is not essential.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with practical experience in rotating equipment, such as turbines or motors. You\’ll be confident in addressing complex engineering challenges during the design and development of advanced systems, applying both analytical and hands-on problem-solving skills. Proficiency in FEA, thermodynamics, and rotating systems will be highly valued.

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working with rotating technology such as turbines, compressors, or high-speed motors.
  • Strong background in thermomechanical analysis and rotor dynamics.
  • Familiarity with FEA and thermodynamics tools and methods.
  • High-speed balancing experience (ideal but not essential).
