You will play a key role within the R&D function, designing and developing next‑generation products used across a wide range of industrial applications.
Role Overview
You'll be responsible for the mechanical and opto‑mechanical design and development of new products from concept through to manufacture, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions for a complex product portfolio. This is a highly visible role within the Product Development team, offering involvement across the full product lifecycle and significant influence on the successful introduction of new technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and development of mechanical/opto‑mechanical components through to manufacture
- Detailed design drawings and procurement specifications and finite element modelling of mechanical and thermal performance
- Liaise with suppliers to support product design, specifications and product compliance
The successful candidate will have 5+ years' experience supporting complex engineered products throughout their lifecycle, within a related or similar high‑tech industry. All candidates should also bring a degree/technical qualification in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Essential Experience
- 3D CAD software package (ideally Solidworks) and MS Office
- Design for assembly, manufacture, service and reliability
- Design for thermal management (a/c or w/c heatsinks, ideally experience with CAB/Vacuum brazing)
Preferred Experience
- Experience in electro‑mechanical design including integration of PCBs, connectors and cabling
- Mechanical system design, including FEA, CFD and ingress protection
- Previous experience with fibre optics or lasers would be highly beneficial
