We are hiring an Engineering Manager for the UK team within ECS to lead our engineering function across New Product Introduction, revenue-generating projects, and process improvement. This role focuses on people leadership, resource planning, and process development, ensuring the team delivers high-quality RF-based products into defence and aviation markets. The UK Engineering Manager will work alongside a US counterpart, with clear leadership structure in place (Engineering Directors sit above both roles).

Location: Wappenham (3 days office / 2 WFH)

Role Purpose

  • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team (Embedded Software, Hardware, Mechanical, Systems, RF).
  • Strengthen engineering processes and implement improved digital governance (including Jira).
  • Support and deliver approximately 6 active NPI or revenue generating programmes a year (typically under 10).
  • Improve resource planning and execution to reduce team stretch.
  • Ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Sales, Operations and Leadership.
  • This is primarily a management and process-focused role, with limited hands-on technical delivery expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of Engineering to deliver key strategic initiatives.
  • Line manage and develop ~8 engineers across multiple disciplines.
  • Own resource planning for NPI and revenue-generating projects.
  • Lead engineering governance, stage-gate processes and KPI reporting.
  • Implement and strengthen structured workflows (transitioning from paper-based processes to digital systems such as Jira).
  • Act as Engineering representative in Sales Order Acknowledgement meetings.
  • Ensure delivery commitments are met across the full product lifecycle.
  • Support ISO 9001 compliance and process improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to technical reviews where appropriate (without being the primary designer).

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a similar Engineering Manager or Team Lead role, with proven line management responsibility.
  • Strong background delivering technical projects or products within a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experience working within structured processes (e.g. ISO 9001) and driving process improvement.
  • Excellent people leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, resources and delivery under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and organisational capability.
  • Engineering degree (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in defence or aviation, and/or knowledge of RF, embedded systems or electronics would be highly beneficial.
  • Experience reporting to senior leadership and familiarity with Agile methodologies are advantageous.
  • Must be a British Citizen or eligible for security clearance.
