This is an onsite position requiring in office work out of our offices in Beaumont, TX, Lake Charles, LA, The Woodlands, TX, or Conroe, TX. Those outside the areas listed would need to relocate; relocation assistance is not available for this posting.

The Training Specialist delivers technical skills training and instruction to new and senior level craft personnel. The training is delivered in a progressive fashion beginning with fundamental skills to the most complex. Critical to this position is not only the ability to communicate effectively, but also to evaluate accurately a participant’s confidence and competency. This position weighs heavily when determining the advancement of craft personnel. This specific position will support Distribution Line, utility automation and safety mandated training as well as other training as assigned by Supervisor of Utility Learning and Development.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety and technical skills training programs to ensure employees have the right knowledge of safety, policies and procedures, as well as the technical skills required to perform effectively in their jobs.
  • Mitigate all risk associated with delivery of technical skills training and report safety violations.
  • Evaluate employee and classification to determine the training curriculum needed for safe, compliant, and error free performance of their respective position.
  • Support design and development and maintenance of new and existing safety, skills and technical training materials.
  • Facilitate delivery of technical skills instruction for craft workers within the Distribution organization.
  • Effectively observe and evaluate performance of training participants.
  • Recommend progression or not in respect to the training participants’ abilities.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of training processes and programs and provide feedback to management.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and industry experts to identify best practices on existing training courses and content, as well as requests for additional training courses and programs.
  • Provide department personnel with training and assignment opportunities that allow for their development and expansion of knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Learn and utilize technology, provide support for training records reporting and other responsibilities as assigned by ULD leadership.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Technical associate degree or equivalent utility experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Technical Training Specialist: 6+ years utility industry experience (with strong distribution/line operations experience) with the ability to deliver, produce and develop training course material without a degree, or 3+ years of experience with a degree.
  • Technical Training Specialist, Sr: 8+ years utility industry experience (with strong distribution/line operations experience) with the ability to deliver, produce and develop training course material without a degree, or 5+ years of experience with a degree.
  • Technical Training Specialist, Sr Lead: 10+ years utility industry experience (with strong distribution/line operations experience) with the ability to deliver, produce and develop training course material without a degree, or 5+ years of experience with a degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong safety culture.
  • Practical knowledge of technical skills to be taught; able to perform technical craft techniques appropriate to the subject matter.
  • Effective communication in various mediums and styles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and public speaking.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Customer focus.
  • Extensive intersystem travel required (up to 40%).
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deliverables in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to work with multiple levels of the organizational structure.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multi‑projects simultaneously.
  • Must be willing to assume a storm restoration role and travel if necessary.
