The Field Engineer will be highly organised, self‑motivated and responsible for installing and basic testing of telecommunication equipment and systems. The engineer will be expected to work on a number of diverse projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines on time and on budget.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of telecommunication equipment and associated infrastructure (fibre and copper cable) in field environments.
  • Carry out Datacentre or PoP audits including all equipment, ports, caballing and general connectivity.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and fault isolation on optical network components.
  • Perform network testing, validation, and documentation of optical fibre networks.
  • Collaborate and support senior network engineers (remote) to configure and test installed telecommunication equipment.
  • Work closely with customers and internal teams to deliver projects and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all work performed.
  • Perform risk assessments prior to commencing works in the field environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards while working on‑site.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills, ensuring that all compulsory internal and external training is up to date and current.
  • When required, send daily reports on progress, status and risks.
  • Work outside of normal hours to support cutover or migration activities.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Good level of practical hands‑on experience in a telephone exchange or datacentre environment.
  • Good understanding of fixed‑line transmission systems including DWDM & OTN.
  • Good understanding of optical and fibre principles including attenuation, dispersion and signal loss.
  • Good understanding of DC and AC power principles.
  • Experience using power‑measuring test equipment including digital multimeters.
  • Ability and appetite to learn new technical concepts and technologies.
  • Experience using fibre‑optic test equipment such as OTDR, optical power meters, and optical spectrum analysers.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in field environments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and documentation skills, including MS Word, Excel & Teams.
  • Full clean driver’s licence.
