Location: Peterborough
Shift Pattern: Monday – Thursday 8am - 4:30 pm, Fridays 8am - 1pm
Rate: £32.50/ hour (Umbrella inside IR35) or PAYE £23.50/ hour
Duration: 12 months (Likely to extend)
We are looking for a hands-on technician who installs, sets up, and tests prototype engines and electric motors used in heavy machinery to make sure they work safely and correctly before going into mass production.
Responsibilities:
- Taking new or experimental engines (both diesel and electric) and installing them into heavy machines.
- Setting up with sensors (thermocouples, pressure gauges, speed trackers) to collect data while the machine is running, and then diagnose any faults.
- Modifying any parts that don’t fit using engineering drawings to weld, machine, or build custom wiring looms.
- The company is ramping up development on next-generation engines and electric vehicles. Development technicians will be rotating between the different workshops to help build and validate entirely new types of machinery.
Essential:
- 4+ years’ experience in engine, automotive or heavy machinery testing.
- Experience working in a workshop environment, testing or maintenance.
- Ideally have an engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship.
- Demonstrable high level of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical/electronic aptitude with a good working knowledge of powertrains and machines.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.
- Good working knowledge of instrumentation.
- Ability to use hand/power tools, lifting and welding equipment.
