Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

Location: Newcastle

Reporting to: Managing Director

About the Role

eKrystal Technology UK is seeking an experienced Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and continuously enhance our health, safety and environmental strategy across the business. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring legal compliance, driving continuous improvement and embedding a strong safety-first culture within a specialist manufacturing environment involving high-temperature processes, flame fusion operations and hazardous gas handling.

As the site's EHS subject matter expert, you will work closely with the Managing Director and operational leadership team to develop robust management systems, minimise risk and promote a culture of accountability, engagement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable UK health, safety and environmental legislation, including COSHH, DSEAR and other relevant regulation.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of operational risks across the site.
  • Develop and maintain effective risk assessment processes that adapt to business and operational changes.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory and compliance-related matters.
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective EHS management systems aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety performance, reduce environmental impact and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant EHS documentation and records.
  • Manage the site's occupational health programme in partnership with external providers.
  • Coordinate referrals, case management and follow-up actors.
  • Support health surveillance programmes and employee wellbeing initiatives relevant to manufacturing and industrial environments.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses using recognised root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Ensure corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented and monitored.
  • Liaise with insurers, external agencies and relevant stakeholders regarding incidents and claims management.

Training & Safety Culture

  • Design and deliver EHS training programmes, inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Identify training requirements across all levels of the organisation.
  • Champion behavioural safety initiatives and promote a positive safety culture throughout the business.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support managers and supervisors in meeting their health, safety and environmental responsibilities.
  • Provide expert guidance and advice on all EHS matters.
  • Build strong relationships across departments to promote accountability and engagement.

Auditing & Performance Monitoring

  • Plan and conduct internal audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor, analyse and report EHS performance metrics and trends.
  • Present findings and improvement recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Develop and implement environmental initiatives focused on compliance, sustainability and operational efficiency.
  • Support programmes aimed at reducing waste, emissions and environmental impact.

Qualifications

  • Environmental qualification such as NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or equivalent – desirable.

Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior EHS leadership role within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation, including COSHH and DSEAR.
  • Experience managing high-risk processes and operational environments.
  • Demonstrable experience in accident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action management.
  • Experience overseeing occupational health programmes and employee wellbeing initiatives.
  • Experience managing insurance-related incidents and claims.
  • Strong background in EHS auditing, compliance monitoring and management systems.
  • Successful track record of delivering training programmes and driving positive culture.
