Manufacturing Project Engineer required for a long term contract near Leicester (initially 6 months, likely to extend beyond this). The Manufacturing Project Engineer is expected to function as a hands-on engineering specialist, leading and delivering manufacturing improvement projects whilst supporting the development of robust, repeatable production processes.
Work assignments will involve ownership of multiple projects at varying stages of completion and will require the successful candidate to work independently, identifying issues, developing solutions and driving improvements through to implementation.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes, identify opportunities for improvement and determine logical approaches to increase efficiency, throughput and quality.
- Analyse manufacturing operations, equipment, layouts and process capability to determine requirements and deliver sustainable improvements.
- Prepare project plans, feasibility assessments and recommendations to support operational and engineering objectives.
- Results contribute to improved manufacturing performance, operational efficiency, process stability and long-term capability development.
Actual work assignments may be typified as follows:
- Leading and delivering Manufacturing Engineering projects from current status through to implementation.
- Defining project scope, timelines, risks and deliverables whilst driving progress across operations, supply chain and engineering functions.
- Supporting the installation, commissioning and optimisation of new equipment and tooling.
- Reviewing current manufacturing processes and identifying opportunities to improve throughput, efficiency and quality.
- Developing and standardising operating procedures and working methods.
- Establishing robust and repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Applying structured problem-solving techniques to address process variability and inefficiencies.
- Driving continuous improvement activities using lean manufacturing principles and best practice.
- Supporting long-term capability development within the manufacturing area.
- Utilising AutoCAD for layout analysis and 3D CAD software (Creo preferred or similar) to support engineering reviews and improvements.
Essential Skills:
- Previous Manufacturing Engineering experience within a production environment.
- Proven experience delivering engineering projects from concept through to implementation.
- Strong project management and project delivery capability.
- AutoCAD experience for layout review and analysis.
- 3D CAD experience (Creo preferred, similar packages considered).
- Demonstrable process improvement and problem-solving experience.
- Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning or process changes.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
Desirable Skills:
- Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement experience.
- Material handling or equipment integration experience.
- Exposure to capital project delivery.
This position encompasses manufacturing engineering, project delivery, process development, continuous improvement, equipment implementation, process optimisation and stakeholder coordination wherever a specific engineering assignment may be required. Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety and operational excellence in performing assigned duties.
This role is inside IR35 and has a pay rate of £47.00/hr FCSA Umbrella or £34.50/hr PAYE depending upon experience and qualifications.
