Our client, a well-established manufacturer operating within the aerospace and defence sectors, is seeking an experienced Prototype Wirer / Cable Harness & Loom Technician to support a growing programme of work. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team involved in the manufacture of complex, high-reliability cable harnesses and looms used in demanding military and aerospace applications. The position is initially approved for 36 months but is expected to continue beyond this period due to ongoing project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture prototype and production cable harnesses and wiring looms from engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Assemble large and complex military cable harnesses to exacting quality standards.
- Carry out cable preparation, routing, terminating, screening and finishing activities.
- Install and secure heat shrink sleeves, boots and associated protective coverings.
- Apply solder sleeves, adhesives and other assembly materials in accordance with specifications.
- Conduct self-inspection and ensure all work meets customer and industry quality requirements.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to support prototype development and low-volume manufacturing activities.
Essential Experience
- Previous cable harness and loom manufacturing experience.
- Experience working within aerospace, defence, military or other high-specification manufacturing environments.
- Multi-core cable assembly and termination.
- Daniels hand tooling and crimping techniques.
- D38999 series connector assembly and termination.
- Manual solder sleeve application.
- Overall cable screening and shielding.
- Heat shrink sleeve and boot installation.
- Adhesive application and finishing techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and wiring schedules.
