We are currently recruiting for an experienced Category Buyer to join a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Peterborough. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy procurement team where you will play a key role in developing category strategies, managing supplier relationships, and delivering commercial value across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and execute category strategies, policies, agreements, and sourcing activities
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, inventory optimisation, and quality improvement
- Support supplier negotiations and commercial discussions
- Manage supplier relationships and performance, ensuring delivery and service expectations are met
- Conduct risk assessments and support sound business decision-making
- Act as the key liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Analyse procurement and supplier data to support strategic decisions
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and contractual requirements
Skills & Experience Required:
- Previous experience as a Category Buyer, Strategic Buyer, Commodity Buyer, Procurement Specialist, or similar procurement role
- Strong supplier relationship management experience
- Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills
- Experience analysing data and identifying improvement opportunities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Understanding of procurement processes and sourcing activities
Desirable:
- Experience within manufacturing or engineering environments
- Experience supporting global suppliers and cross-functional teams
- Relevant procurement qualifications or business-related degree
