Contract

Overview
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Build/Rig Technician to join our Test & Development team at a leading global engineering and manufacturing organization based in Peterborough.
You will work within a busy engine development environment, contributing to the building, stripping, rebuilding and preparing of diesel engines for testing and supporting a range of current and future development programmes.
Responsibilities
- Build, strip and rebuild diesel engines.
- Prepare engines for testing within dedicated test facilities.
- Rig and de‑rig engines.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and support root cause investigations.
- Work closely with engineering and test teams to support development activities.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate build records and ensure high quality standards.
- Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Experience in engine build and mechanical assembly.
- Experience in engine overhaul, repair or maintenance.
- Experience in automotive, HGV, plant machinery, military or aerospace engineering.
- Experience in engine test, development or workshop environments.
- Experience in mechanical fault finding and diagnostics.
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering.
- Military engineering backgrounds and transferable mechanical assembly experience encouraged.
