Overview
We’re seeking a Technical Delivery Lead with good Azure and Databricks architecture expertise to lead the delivery of a complex, data-intensive programme. This role is ideal for someone who combines hands-on cloud architecture knowledge with the ability to lead large engineering teams. You will take ownership of end-to-end solution architecture across Azure data platforms, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing systems built on Databricks and modern data engineering principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of large-scale programmes centred on Azure data platforms and Databricks-based architectures
- Define and govern end-to-end architecture across Azure services, ensuring alignment to best practices and enterprise standards
- Act as the technical authority for Azure and Databricks solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, and storage layers
- Design and oversee implementation of data lakehouse architectures (ADLS + Databricks)
- Ensure optimal use of services such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Azure Key Vault, and Azure Networking
- Drive performance optimisation and scalability across large-scale data processing pipelines (PySpark/Databricks)
- Lead engineering teams delivering solutions using Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code
- Engage senior stakeholders to communicate architectural decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly
- Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulated environment standards
- Oversee transition into live service, ensuring operational resilience and support readiness
Core Requirements
- Active UK Security Clearance (SC or higher)
- Proven experience delivering Azure-based data platforms with a strong focus on architecture and design
- Deep expertise in Azure services, including:
- Azure Data Lake (ADLS)
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Key Vault
- Azure Networking and IAM
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks
- Experience designing and delivering scalable data lakehouse solutions
- Strong understanding of distributed data processing and performance optimisation
- Experience leading teams across architecture, data engineering, and platform delivery
- Ability to translate complex Azure/Databricks architectures into business-friendly outcomes
- Strong stakeholder management skills at senior and executive levels
