Job Description

As a Product Manager within Platform Engineering, you will be responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for our Internal Developer Platform (IDP), developer experience initiatives, platform automation, and emerging AI capabilities.

You will ensure platform investments deliver measurable business value, improve engineering productivity, accelerate software delivery, and provide a scalable foundation for future growth.

Reporting to the Head of Platform Engineering, you will work closely with engineering, architecture, security, product, and operational teams to identify opportunities, prioritise outcomes, and drive adoption of platform capabilities across the organisation.

You will act as the bridge between business objectives and technical delivery, ensuring platform engineering efforts remain aligned to organisational goals.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our engineering ecosystem, driving platform strategy, developer experience, cloud native adoption, and Agentic AI capabilities that empower colleagues across Product and Technology.

What You Will Do

  • Define and own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Internal Developer Platform (IDP), ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives.
  • Establish a product operating model for Platform Engineering, balancing engineering enablement, operational excellence, security, and innovation.
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify developer pain points and opportunities to improve productivity, reliability, and delivery speed.
  • Drive the adoption and continuous evolution of self service platform capabilities, including infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, environment management, and developer workflows.
  • Define success metrics and key performance indicators such as deployment frequency, lead time for change, developer satisfaction, platform adoption, service reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain a prioritised platform backlog based on business value, engineering feedback, technical risk, and strategic outcomes.
  • Lead discovery activities, stakeholder engagement, user research, and platform maturity assessments to inform roadmap decisions.
  • Champion developer experience across the organisation, improving onboarding, service creation, documentation, templates, and engineering workflows.
  • Define and drive the strategy for Agentic AI capabilities that accelerate colleagues across Product and Technology through intelligent workflows, automation, decision support, and operational assistance.
  • Work with engineering teams to identify and deliver AI powered opportunities that improve productivity, reduce manual effort, and enhance platform operations.
  • Collaborate with security, architecture, and compliance teams to ensure platform capabilities meet organisational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop business cases and value frameworks for platform investments, demonstrating measurable return on investment and engineering effectiveness improvements.
  • Communicate platform strategy, roadmap progress, adoption metrics, and outcomes to senior stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies across Platform Engineering, Internal Developer Platforms, Cloud Native technologies, Developer Experience, and AI to inform future platform direction.
  • Foster a product mindset within Platform Engineering, focusing on customer needs, adoption, outcomes, and continuous improvement rather than technology delivery alone.
  • What Success Looks Like
  • Increased adoption and engagement with platform capabilities across engineering teams.
  • Improved developer experience and measurable reductions in engineering friction.
  • Faster and more reliable software delivery through platform enabled self service.
  • Clear visibility of platform value through engineering productivity and business outcome metrics.
  • Successful delivery and adoption of Agentic AI workflows that create tangible efficiency gains across Product and Technology.
  • A scalable platform strategy that enables future growth while reducing operational complexity.
  • Key Industry Best Practice Focus Areas
  • Platform as a Product
  • Internal Developer Platforms (IDP)
  • Developer Experience (Dev Ex)
  • DORA Metrics and Engineering Effectiveness
  • Product Discovery and Outcome Based Roadmapping
  • Cloud Native and Kubernetes Strategy
  • AI and Agentic Workflow Enablement
  • Platform Adoption and Change Management
  • Engineering Productivity Measurement
  • Stakeholder Management and Executive Communication

Qualifications

  • 4-7 years of experience in a Dev Ops, Platform Engineering, or similar role.
  • Proven experience in designing or contributing to an Internal Developer Platform or developer productivity tools.
  • Strong skills in Shell scripting (Bash/Power Shell) and programming (Python or Java).
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible, Kubernetes, and Git Lab CI/CD.

Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned.
