Define your future in a specialist area of insurance at the heart of the global financial system. Enstar works in a specialist area of the insurance industry that brings together finance, risk and strategy. We focus on the retrospective market, which is where insurers manage or transfer older insurance policies that are no longer being sold. While this is an area many students haven’t heard of, it plays an important role in keeping the global financial system running smoothly. This internship gives you the chance to see how this works in practice. You’ll be involved in real projects linked to risk, capital and business decisions, and learn how insurance companies adapt and grow.

Founded in 1993, Enstar has grown from a start-up into a global reinsurance group and a leader in retrospective insurance solutions. With around 800 employees across major insurance locations worldwide, we help our clients manage risk, free up capital and plan for future growth.

About the Internship

Our ten-week summer internship programme offers real, hands-on experience from day one. You will be a valued member of the team, working alongside experienced professionals and contributing to projects with genuine impact. You will build practical skills, expand your professional network, and gain exposure to a highly specialised area of the industry that plays a meaningful role in the broader insurance and finance ecosystem.

This summer internship is available in a variety of different Enstar business areas, you could apply to work in any one of these:

  • Claims & Claims Ops
  • Compliance
  • Business Change
  • Risk

Claims & Claims Ops

In Claims, you’ll gain exposure to how claims are managed across the insurance lifecycle, supporting projects involving underwriting, reinsurance and commutations, and learning about the role of courts, brokers and Lloyd’s of London. In Claims Operations, you’ll see how operational processes support claims delivery, including workflow management, data checks, reporting and continuous improvement, and how Operations partners closely with Claims teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency and strong controls.

Compliance

As a Compliance intern, you’ll gain broad exposure to how a global compliance function operates within the insurance industry. You’ll support activities across advisory, assurance, financial crime prevention, operations and data privacy, while building an understanding of key regulatory frameworks, including Lloyd’s, the PRA and European regulators. You’ll assist with compliance monitoring, regulatory research and project work, and learn how compliance partners with the business to manage risk across multiple jurisdictions.

Business Change

As a Business Change intern, you’ll gain insight into how change is delivered across the Enstar Group. You’ll be supported by the team to understand our purpose, ways of working and the value change delivery brings to the business. You’ll help support key initiatives and smaller changes already in progress, working with teams across Finance, HR, Compliance, M&A and IT to ensure change is adopted effectively and delivers meaningful outcomes.

Capital Modelling

As a Capital Modelling intern, you’ll gain exposure to how insurers quantify and manage risk, helping determine the capital required to support the business. You’ll learn how models are built and maintained, how regulatory frameworks influence our approach, and how we work with teams across the organisation. You’ll support data preparation, model analysis and projects such as stress testing and scenario analysis, contributing to our capital management activities.

Risk
