The Lead Project Manager (PM) excels in a business facing role and has a proven track record of delivery in the Insurance / Financial Services industry. The candidate will manage the US and EU based team of Project Managers along with helping to develop/implement PM best practices alongside the Central Programme Management Office (PMO). They will work closely with the Lead Business Analyst (BA) to help ensure that current and future projects are delivered in line with PM and BA best practices, based on the type and scale of projects, along with ensuring the identified business benefits are realised. This role will provide project assurance to the Head of Change to enable the Business Change Delivery Lead to meet its operational and strategic objectives. Additionally, this role will also be required to deliver ad hoc projects in co‑ordination with internal and/or external teams as appropriate. What you will be doing:
- Project Team Management
- Responsible for day‑to‑day management and mentoring of the Business Change Project Managers, including objective setting and performance management.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers, ensuring they adhere to high‑quality project management standards.
- Drive accuracy and accountability in all project updates, ensuring financials, risks, issues, and artefacts are consistently correct and up to date.
- Conduct regular quality assurance on project reporting, identifying and resolving errors before submission.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by coaching project managers in best practices, governance, and methodology.
- Ensure that all PMO‑required documentation (e.g., RAID logs, budgets, plans) is readily available and current.
- Develop standard templates for communication with stakeholders e.g. Steering Committees, Working Groups.
- Establish clear processes for tracking and updating key project data, ensuring PMO and stakeholders have access to timely and accurate information.
- Project Delivery
- Direct and manage large, complex projects following the Enstar Project Management methodology, from initiation through to successful delivery.
- Work with senior stakeholders to develop robust business cases that clearly define the project / programme benefits and support the approval process.
- Define project scope, objectives and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain robust project plans, clearly defining critical paths, key milestones, and dependencies.
- Identifying and estimating the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals. Resolve resource constraints and/or conflicts.
- Identify and proactively manage project risks and issues and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Proactively manage changes in projects, ensuring appropriate contingency planning and risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Stakeholder & Expectation Management
- Develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with senior stakeholders including the EU and Group Executive.
- Ensure clear communication lines are in place and that expectations are managed and escalations are handled professionally.
- Thrive under pressure, maintaining composure to navigate challenges efficiently.
- Act as a key point of contact between the Business Change Delivery Lead, PMO, and delivery teams to ensure seamless project execution.
What you will bring:
- 10+ years of project management experience within the insurance/reinsurance sector with at least 5 years in a management role.
- Lloyd’s market understanding.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing a team of project managers in a diverse environment with a strong background in assurance, governance and methodology.
- A demonstrable record of the delivery of business and technology change.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Evidence of working with all levels of an organisation.
- Evidence of extensive knowledge and experience of solving complex problems, considering enterprise‑wide solutions and impact.
- Expert analytical, numerical and project management skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint, Access and Azure DevOps.
- Highly structured: ability to work in a logical and organised manner.
- Analytical thinking: ability to tackle issues and problems in a logical and organised way, with the ability to create solid written project artifacts.
