Overview
Due to company growth plans and an increasing pipeline of leads, Enspec is looking for an organised and experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our team. This role will emphasise dynamic analysis and UK Grid Code compliance, requiring expertise in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD.
The Role
- Dynamic Studies: Conduct frequency and voltage stability analysis within the G99 standard.
- Steady State Studies: such as load flow, fault level and reactive compensation.
- UK Grid Code Compliance: Ensure compliance with UK Grid Code through comprehensive studies.
- Power Systems Analysis: Perform steady-state studies such as load flow, fault level, and reactive compensation.
- Harmonic Analysis: Conduct Harmonic G5/5 analysis, power quality assessments, and filter design.
- P28 Studies: Assess voltage fluctuations and flicker severity.
- Simulation Studies: Execute transient over-voltage and insulation coordination simulations, including switching and lightning events.
- Control Interaction: Perform studies on control system interactions within power networks.
- Earthing Studies: Carry out detailed earthing studies for various projects.
- Protection Coordination: Ensure proper protection coordination and perform Arc Flash studies.
- Grid Connection Support: Provide technical support for grid connection to onshore and offshore developers.
- Solution Design: Design and program components, especially harmonic filters and reactive compensation solutions.
A typical week would include:
- Delivering consulting work related to dynamic analysis and UK Grid Code compliance.
- Providing technical and project management leadership to support the project team.
- Ensuring the technical quality of power systems projects, reports, and proposals.
- Building and maintaining key client relationships to effectively position power systems services and secure future business.
- Leading the development and delivery of project proposals and identifying areas where services and skills can be integrated through multi-disciplinary working.
- Leading on excellence in power systems software packages (e.g., DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, IPSA, CDEGs).
Qualifications and Requirements
- Degree: Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience with UK Grid Code Compliance Studies.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with power system software packages including DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSCAD. Familiarity with PSS/E, ETAP, IPSA, and CDEGs is beneficial.
- Consulting: Experience in power systems consulting and a network of industry contacts and clients.
- Motivation: Proactive and highly motivated to meet customer requirements.
- Project Delivery: Proven track record in project delivery with a focus on quality.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Teamwork: Strong teamworking culture.
- Problem Solving: Analytical problem solver.

- International Knowledge: Understanding of power quality in international markets (USA, Australia, Africa) is a benefit.
