Your Role
You will be part of a rapidly expanding company with the ambition to be the world’s preferred mixed signal ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) partner. There is an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Electronics Test Technician to join our friendly and inclusive engineering team. You will be an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate engineering test function within a growing business. As an Apprentice Electronics Test Technician, you will provide a high level of test and general engineering support to the engineering team and business. Assisting the Principal Test Engineer with tasks and general duties is an everyday part of the role. This will include helping with validation testing, test equipment calibration and control, PCB builds, including soldering, and other tasks as required.
While working as an Apprentice Electronics Test Technician you will be required to complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) Electrical/Electronic qualification. Training will be provided by a selected provider and you will attend College and/or complete online. You will be allowed one day a week dedicated to apprenticeship training, this can be done in College or at your place of work. You will gain in-depth knowledge of electronic testing and also gain experience in schematic capture and PCB layout, PCB build and rework including soldering of surface mount and leaded components which will complement your technical studies.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Assist in setting up and preparing test equipment and test benches in readiness for incoming ICs to the laboratory.
- Assist with the development of software used for testing activities.
- Assist with performing tests and recording test result data.
- Perform PCB assembly and rework, including soldering of surface‑mount components.
- Support the management of the test equipment inventory, including coordinating maintenance, servicing, calibration, and updating equipment records.
- Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout tasks.
- Perform general laboratory duties as required.
- Manage the ordering of components and ancillary items to ensure the efficient operation of lab facilities.
- Carry out general maintenance tasks within the lab environment, as well as any other suitable duties assigned by the line manager.
Your Key Skills and Experience
- A-levels in physics or electronics, a Level 3 BTEC in Engineering.
- A keen interest in electronics and computers.
- A basic understanding of electronic circuits.
- Familiarity with using fundamental electronic test equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to identify and correct errors.
- Competence in using Excel, including extracting and analysing data.
