Job Responsibilities

  • Communicate with all co‑workers professionally, addressing discrepancies or queries.
  • Report problems that may affect quality or service delivery to the Team Leader or Section Manager promptly.
  • Prepare and analyse all samples accurately and within the required timeframe.
  • Record sample data accurately in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Prepare chemical standards and reagents in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Follow all relevant Standard Operating Procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a positive image of Cawood by keeping equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) clean and in good condition.
  • Use company equipment in accordance with guidelines and report any damage to management immediately.
  • Work as part of a team, maintain morale, and offer assistance wherever possible.
  • Prioritise safety in all lab activities and report accidents or near‑misses to managers immediately, in line with company policy.
  • Assist with on‑site training of new employees and facilitate friendly, engaging onboarding.
  • Operate instrumentation after successful training, including ICP‑OES, ICP‑MS, UV‑VIS, analytical balances, ovens and furnaces.
  • Comply with Cawood ways of working, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, compliant and effective working environment.
  • Continuously review and optimise work processes, share good practice and suggest improvements.
  • Perform work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while upholding high quality standards.
  • Utilise structural reporting lines and communicate lab problems promptly and effectively.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvement, embrace change and seek clarity when needed.
