This role is located in the United Kingdom at our business unit, Chemtech Environmental, within the Cawood Scientific Environment Division. Chemtech Environmental, part of Cawood Scientific, is one of the UK's largest independent chemical analysis testing labs. Based in County Durham, we are able to service the testing needs of customers from all over the UK and Ireland. We also hold a soil importing licence so are happy to discuss International testing projects.
Chemtech is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sample Preparation Technician to join our dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a leading analytical laboratory known for its commitment to quality, safety, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities- Team & Communication
- Collaborate effectively with other departments
- Lead by example and promote a positive working culture
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient Sample Preparation area
- Monitor stock levels and place orders as needed
- Health & Safety Champion
- Health & Safety within the Sample Preparation Team
- Ensure correct use of PPE and promote best practices
- Identify and act on opportunities for Health & Safety improvements
- Quality & Procedures
- Continuously seek improvements in departmental procedures
- Support internal and external quality control processes
- Sample Handling
- Prepare and subsample a variety of materials including soils, solids, leachates, and water samples
- Ensure accurate completion of sample preparation logs
- Manage sample storage systems and disposal processes in line with protocols
- Equipment & Calibration
- Perform daily equipment checks and maintenance
- Ensure soil drying cabinets meet MCERTs standards
- Troubleshoot equipment issues as needed
- AQC (Analytical Quality Control)
- Prepare and monitor internal AQC materials
- Conduct monthly contamination checks and support PT scheme analysis
- Assist with PT failure reports and cross-departmental quality initiatives
- Training & Development
- Maintain up-to-date training records and support team development
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- A proactive approach to Health & Safety and quality standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Previous experience in a laboratory or sample preparation environment is desirable but not essential β full training will be provided
