We're looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer who enjoys turning complex technical challenges into products that work in the real world.
You'll join Ensera Design's Electronics & Software team, developing electronic systems across medical devices, drug delivery, diagnostics and consumer health.
You'll take electronic systems from early concepts and prototypes through detailed design, verification, compliance and manufacture, working alongside specialists in software, mechanical engineering, design, human factors and manufacturing.
We're particularly interested in people who combine strong hands-on electronics capability with experience in medical product development or consultancy engineering, ideally both.
As a consultancy, you'll work across different technologies, development stages and client challenges. That could mean proving the feasibility of an early-stage concept for a start‑up, solving a difficult technical problem within an existing product or supporting an established global organisation through verification and production.
You'll work directly with clients to understand technical and commercial requirements, communicate engineering decisions and develop solutions that are technically robust, manufacturable and appropriate for the end user.
Depending on your experience, you'll also have opportunities to lead technical workstreams, develop specifications, contribute to proposals and project planning and present recommendations directly to clients.
If you've developed strong electronics expertise but want more variety, different technical challenges and greater exposure to the full product-development lifecycle, this could be the role for you.
The role is initially offered as a 12-month fixed-term contract with the potential to become permanent. It is primarily full-time, 38 hours per week, based from our Bristol office with hybrid working. We are open to part-time working for the right person.
About you
You're someone who enjoys getting hands‑on with electronics and using your technical knowledge to solve complex problems. You'll thrive on the variety of consultancy, collaborating across disciplines and adapting to different technologies, projects and client challenges.
You’ll enjoy collaborating across a variety of disciplines internally with colleagues and be able to manage external stakeholders and clients, even when things are difficult.
Your skills and experience
You don't need to tick every box below. We're more interested in the depth of your engineering experience and how you approach complex product‑development challenges.
We're looking for strong electronics foundations, including:
- Hands‑on analogue and digital electronic design experience.
- Strong understanding of electronics first principles and the ability to check and validate designs.
- Experience with 32‑bit ARM microcontrollers such as STM32 or nRF.
- Knowledge of interfaces and protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB and Ethernet.
- Experience of schematic capture, PCB design/layout and board bring‑up.
- Experience with low‑power circuit design.
- Practical debugging, testing and verification experience.
- Experience designing and testing for EMC, safety, radio or other regulatory requirements.
- Confidence communicating technical work to colleagues and clients.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
We'd particularly love to hear from you if you bring:
- Medical‑device or regulated‑product experience, including exposure to areas such as EN 60601, ISO 14971, design controls, verification or validation.
- Consultancy or client‑facing product‑development experience.
- Experience taking systems from concept through to design for manufacture.
- Embedded C/C++ experience.
You don't need experience in every area listed above. Strong electronics capability combined with relevant medical/regulated or consultancy experience is more important to us than ticking every individual technology box.
The salary for this role is in line with our consultant band which is £40,800 to £50,000. We ask you for your salary expectation as part of your application.
Why work with us?
Ensera Design offers interesting and varied work combined and a supportive team culture to provide a stimulating environment where you will have the opportunity to develop and learn from others. We offer flexible working policies where working patterns are agreed with our line managers, taking into account the role, needs of the individual and the team.
We recognise that we are only as good as our people and we know how important it is to support our team.
We offer:
- Performance‑related company‑wide bonus.
- Flexible hybrid working in line with our core hours (Mon–Thu, 9:30am–12:00pm & 2:00pm–4:00pm; Fri, 9:30am–12:00pm).
- Private healthcare for you and your family.
- Enhanced maternity and paternity leave.
- Salary exchange pension scheme.
- 25 days of annual leave, plus the option to purchase up to one working week and additional days for length of service.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Programme and digital wellbeing platform.
- Cycle to Work & Electric Vehicle Lease schemes.
- Death in service (x4 gross salary).
- Training and development opportunities, including dedicated learning days and regular knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- A free lunch the first Monday of every month alongside our company‑wide meeting.
- Free breakfast every Wednesday, and plenty of opportunities to socialise, including team‑organized activities, summer and Christmas parties, and more.
