Ensera Design is a world-class user-centred innovation and product development consultancy, specializing in the medical and consumer health sectors with offices in Bristol, Colorado and New Jersey. We are currently seeking a Senior Electronics Engineer looking to combine their well-established engineering expertise and consultancy skills to the development of new products and technologies. This is primarily a full-time role (38 hours per week) based out of our Bristol office; however, a proportion of the work can be conducted at home, and we will consider the possibility of part-time working for the right candidate.

As a Senior Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic systems as part of the Electronics & Software team. You will consult with clients to understand their challenges and use your creative and technical skills to identify and bring to life solutions. You will use your knowledge of electronic and physical first principles, analytical skills, practical experimentation, and simulation skills to take electronic systems from concepts through to production. You will have the opportunity to lead projects, proposal writing, planning, specification development, and presenting project activities.

Your skills and experience

Whilst you do not need to meet all of these points, please ensure you meet the majority of them before making an application:

  • A degree (2:1) or above in Electronics Engineering or associated course
  • Knowledge of analogue circuit design principles
  • Experience with 32-bit ARM micro-controllers (e.g. STM32)
  • A solid understanding of common wired and wireless communications protocols including I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB, Ethernet etc.
  • An understanding of good practice in PCB layout
  • Confidence and authority when presenting approaches and decisions
  • Great people skills and an ability to collaborate in project teams
  • Commercial awareness and be able to manage your time within defined timescales
  • An ability to communicate with stakeholders internally and externally at all levels of a project and to see situations from their perspectives

Desirable experience:

  • Experience of working in a consultancy environment
  • Medical device development experience including EN 60601
  • Experience with low power circuit design
  • Experience designing and testing for compliance, CE/FCC, EMC, radio, safety etc.
  • Experience developing systems from concept to design for manufacture
  • Experience conducting FMEAs
  • Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Basic knowledge of embedded software development in C/C++
