Ensera Design is a world-class user-centred innovation and product development consultancy, specializing in the medical and consumer health sectors with offices in Bristol, Colorado and New Jersey. We are currently seeking an Electronics Engineer (initially on a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of moving to a permanent contract) looking to combine their well-established engineering expertise and consultancy skills to the development of new products and technologies.
This is primarily a full-time role (38 hours per week) based out of our Bristol office; however, a proportion of the work can be conducted at home, and we will consider the possibility of part-time working for the right candidate.
As an Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic systems as part of the Electronics & Software team. You will consult with clients to understand their challenges and use your creative and technical skills to identify and bring to life solutions. You will use your knowledge of electronic and physical first principles, analytical skills, practical experimentation, and simulation skills to take electronic systems from concepts through to production. You will have the opportunity to lead projects, proposal writing, planning, specification development, and presenting project activities.

You’ll enjoy collaborating across a variety of disciplines internally with colleagues and be able to manage external stakeholders and clients, even when things are difficult.
Your skills and experience
- Excellent knowledge and experience of Electronic Engineering.
- A strong understanding of electronics first principles and ability to perform basic hand calculations to check designs.
- Experience with 32-bit ARM micro-controllers (e.g. STM32, nRF).
- An in-depth understanding of common wired and wireless communications protocols, including I2C, UART, SPI, Bluetooth LE, USB, Ethernet etc.
- An understanding of best practice in PCB layout.
- Experience with low power circuit design.
- You will be comfortable presenting work to others.
- You will enjoy collaborating with other engineering and design disciplines in project teams.
- You will have solid commercial awareness and be able to manage time and budget effectively.
- Experience designing and testing for compliance, CE/FCC, EMC, radio, safety etc.
Desirable beneficial experience:
- Experience of working in a consultancy environment.
- Medical device development experience, such as EN 60601.
- Experience developing systems from concept to design for manufacture.
- Experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience developing embedded software (C/C++).
The salary for this role is in line with our Consultant band which is £40,800 to £50,000. We ask you for your salary expectation as part of your application.
