About Ensek
Ensek builds the cloud‑native SaaS software that’s transforming how energy retailers operate, innovate and manage at scale. We help retailers lower operating costs, improve billing accuracy for consumers, and enhance customer experience through automation and AI‑driven insight, all underpinned by modern, cloud‑native architecture. Ensek is at an exciting inflection point as we scale at pace towards new international horizons. If you’re motivated by solving complex, real‑world problems and want to lead the teams that build reliable, resilient platform services to accelerate the global energy transition, you’ll feel right at home with us.
About the Role
ENSEK is transforming its core SaaS platform and shifting from a tightly coupled, monolithic environment into a modern, domain‑driven, product‑led engineering organisation. We’re hiring a Head of Engineering to help lead this evolution through shaping technical direction, strengthening engineering culture, and building a high‑performing, domain‑aligned organisation. You’ll lead ~50–60 engineers across multiple squads, take full ownership of engineering outcomes, and drive meaningful change across ways of working, quality, delivery and leadership. This is a senior, strategic engineering leadership role — not a delivery manager position.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, lead and scale high‑performing teams, establishing strong leadership layers and fostering autonomy, accountability and modern engineering practices.
- Partner tightly with Product, driving shared ownership of outcomes, prioritisation and delivery.
- Lead platform modernisation, contributing to decoupling efforts, architectural direction, clear domain boundaries, communication patterns and scalability.
- Champion new ways of working, embedding shift‑left engineering, continuous improvement and modern delivery practices.
- Lift engineering standards, improving speed, quality, reliability and release processes.
- Shape culture and leadership, challenging legacy thinking and driving a high‑standards, product‑led engineering environment.
Key Outcomes
- Strong leadership in place across squads, improving autonomy, accountability and team performance.
- Noticeable improvements in delivery speed, quality and reliability.
- A cultural shift toward modern engineering principles and empowered, domain‑aligned product teams.
- Tangible progress decoupling the existing “small monolith” and establishing scalable, domain‑oriented architecture.
- Clear ownership and accountability embedded across engineering, with Product and Engineering aligned on priorities and outcomes.
Key Experience Needed
- Senior engineering leadership experience in SaaS or high‑growth scale‑up environments.
- Successful leadership of 40–60+ engineers through managers, leads and senior ICs.
- Proven experience modernising engineering organisations and driving cultural change.
- Strong partnership history with Product, delivering measurable outcomes and shaping shared strategy.
- Experience with platform evolution, decoupling/modernisation, and large‑scale technical transformation.
- Deep understanding of modern engineering practices (shift‑left, trunk‑based/CI‑first, high‑standards cultures, data‑informed decision‑making).
- Comfortable leading through ambiguity, challenging legacy models and establishing new ways of working.
Company benefits
- 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays
- Option to buy or sell 5 extra annual leave days per year
- Vitality Health Insurance, including private healthcare, virtual GP access and mental‑health support
- Pension with 5% matched contribution
- Regular team‑wide and company‑wide events
- 2 volunteering days per year
- Remote‑first working environment with offices in London and Nottingham
