ENSEK is a technology business operating in the global energy sector, designing and developing software that enables energy retailers to manage their energy consumers. ENSEK’s Ignition platform is a SaaS tool that provides energy suppliers with the technology to manage energy consumers - from quote to sign up, billing, collection, and service, all in real-time.

Role Summary

As an Engineering Manager in the Core Services Team, you will play a key role in supporting our community of engineers across our product engineering function to work smarter and remove unnecessary barriers. You will support the Core Services Team in making key decisions on priorities and be a key advocate across engineering for the work that is delivered in this team and the value it brings. As a leader within the Tribe, you will play a core role in developing our people, enabling them to grow and progress as individuals as we scale the tribe over the coming months. Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to a Head of Architecture, the Engineering Manager is responsible for the quality, speed and sustainability of software that is delivered.
  • Manage delivery timelines, schedule expectations and tracking progress to ensure the Product/s are delivered within scope, to time and cost.
  • Work in partnership with the Architecture and Platform teams to manage engineering delivery timescales and scheduling expectations.
  • Track monitoring and reporting on the technical debt to ensure the Product/s are delivered within scope, to time and cost.
  • Intuitively understand where the technical debt is within the squad and take action to ensure that this is understood and prioritised.
  • Drive a positive culture of engagement and present a “glass half full” attitude, removing obstacles and ensuring a positive and engaged team.
  • Ensure that the squad follows the Ways of Working agreed within your Retros and any Guilds to optimise performance and output.
  • Collaborate with the Architects, Principal Engineer, and Product Owners to understand the technical detail which provides awareness of risks.
  • Manage all the ceremonies of the team efficiently and constructively.
  • Provide line management, coaching, and mentoring of the Engineering teams.
  • Manage augmented, remote squads, working closely with delivery partners to develop strong working relationships.
  • Add value to the experience of clients, colleagues and other relevant stakeholders through practicing and promoting the ENSEK values.
  • Promote and maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, building partnerships and teamwork across ENSEK.

Technical Skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail is key.
  • Demonstrable ability to manage, coach, support, and direct distributed teams.
  • Solid experience in all aspects of line management and pastoral care.
  • Experience in managing and delivering projects, prioritising to ensure alignment with delivery timelines.
  • Internal client focused approach, demonstrating outstanding levels of diplomacy and tact.
  • Experience working with senior high performing engineers.
  • Experience of working in Software or Platform Engineering with agile tools and techniques is a must.
  • Experience from the Energy/Utilities sector would be a real positive.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to listen, collaborate and influence others.
  • Proven experience of interfacing with technology leaders across an organisation.
  • A problem solver who can facilitate timely decisions.
  • Values the importance of teamwork, with experience of working in a remote team being essential.
