Role summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead QA Engineer is responsible for influencing the test strategy for Engineering and Product Lines within their designated squad. You will work with the engineering squad to improve the quality of ENSEK’s software, improve test frameworks and tools, and perform risk assessments for software releases. You will coach and mentor other members of the test team in the squad (change to department).
You will be responsible for leading and driving continuous improvement of testing best practices within the product line/squad, remaining current on new technologies, making recommendations, and sharing knowledge within areas of domain expertise with peers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead role & go-to person for one squad or for one product/technical domain impacting multiple squads
- Collaborate with the Principal QA Engineer, Architects, Lead Engineers and Engineering Management on testing best practices, tooling and strategy to ensure product solutions, capabilities and outcomes are delivered
- Formally lead other squad members, set direction aligned with Test Strategy and Roadmap, drive continuous improvement across people, processes, quality
- Build and maintain core automation test frameworks to support the wider Product Engineering department
- Own and maintain QA environments and data to ensure testing reflects UAT and Production environments
- Ensure accurate test coverage, focused on automated test coverage
- Manage and review ENSEK testing toolset, stay up to speed with technology developments and best practice
- Contribute to the central view of QA status across the ENSEK Product Portfolio
- Drive continuous improvement of testing areas affecting product delivery including test environments, release strategies, production testing and monitoring
- Maintain and develop QA skills through external training and knowledge sharing within the QA guild, taking a strong lead
- Be the focal point for all testing queries and escalations related to the Product line
- Own the release process, understand and make risk-based decisions for production releases, including QA sign off
- Involvement in QA recruitment process
- Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders and clients on QA topics
- Contribute as a member of an agile team, mentoring Test Engineers and participating in refinement sessions and reviews
- Promote ENSEK values and contribute to a positive, results-oriented environment
- Promote partnerships and teamwork across ENSEK
Technical skills
- Extensive hands-on test experience within Agile projects, with a strong understanding of CI/CD or DevOps practices
- Experience advising on test scope, approach, risks and assumptions, ideally within a microservice architecture
- Experienced Test Engineer in a delivery-focused environment, API and/or UI level test automation expertise including designing, building and maintaining automation frameworks
- Knowledge and experience with Open-Source tools and Cloud-based services; programming concepts and languages such as .NET, C#, JavaScript
- Experience in non-functional testing covering security and performance
- Ability to coach others with diplomacy and tact
- Experience as testing lead within an agile testing environment; Energy/Utilities experience advantageous
- Agile and Software Testing Certifications are preferred
