Role: Lead QA Engineer – Part Time

Role Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead QA Engineer is responsible for influencing the test strategy for Engineering and Product Lines within their designated squad. You will work with the engineering squad to improve the quality of ENSEK’s software, enhance test frameworks and tools, and perform risk assessments for software releases. You will coach and mentor other members of the test team in the squad.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead role & go-to person for one squad or a product/technical domain impacting multiple squads
- Collaborate with the Principal QA Engineer, Architects, Lead Engineers and Engineering Management on implementing testing best practices, testing tools and test strategy to deliver product solutions and outcomes
- Formally lead other squad members, setting direction aligned with the Test Strategy and Roadmap; drive continuous improvement across people, processes, and quality
- Build and maintain core automation test frameworks to support the wider Product Engineering department
- Own and maintain QA environments and data to ensure testing occurs in a clean, stable environment reflecting UAT and Production as closely as possible
- Ensure accurate test coverage, measured and focused on automated test coverage
- Manage and review ENSEK testing toolset, staying current with technology developments and best practices
- Contribute to the central view of QA status across the ENSEK Product Portfolio
- Drive continuous improvement of all areas affecting product quality including test environments, release strategies, production testing and monitoring
- Develop the QA skill set through external training, knowledge sharing, and leading the QA guild
- Be the focal point for all testing queries and escalations related to the product line, drawing on subject matter expertise for swift resolution
- Own the release process decisions based on risk and impact for production releases, including QA sign-off
- Active involvement in QA recruitment process
- Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders and clients on QA topics
- Contribute to the team as an agile member; mentor Test Engineers and participate in refinement sessions
- Promote ENSEK values and maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment
Technical Skills
- Understands product/QA architecture beyond squad scope
- Extensive hands-on testing experience within Agile projects, with a strong understanding of CI/CD or DevOps practices
- Experience advising on test scope, approach, risks and assumptions, ideally within a microservice architecture
- Delivery-focused tester with API and/or UI automation experience, including designing, building and maintaining automation frameworks
- Knowledge of Open-Source tools and Cloud-based services; strong programming background in languages such as .NET, C#, JavaScript
- Experience in non-functional testing such as security and performance
- Ability to coach others with diplomacy and tact
- Experience as testing lead within an agile environment; experience in Energy/Utilities is advantageous
- Agile and Software Testing Certifications are preferred
