Our client, based in Wickford, Essex are recruiting for an experienced and qualified Health & Safety Advisor. (Ideally NEBOSH qualified). Below, we have set out your roles & responsibility chart for your position as a Health and Safety Advisor. Note you will need to have a full driving licence as you will be required to sometimes travel off site to client sites.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines tailored to the specific needs of the business.
- Produce risk assessments and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate control measures to mitigate risks effectively.
- Collaborate with relevant personnel to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure adherence to health and safety standards at all times.
- Provide expert advice, guidance, and training to employees, and other stakeholders on health and safety matters, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor and evaluate health and safety performance, analysing data, and producing reports to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for enhancing safety initiatives.
- Keep abreast of new legislation, regulations, and industry standards related to health and safety, ensuring compliance and recommending necessary updates to company policies and procedures.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, clients, regarding health and safety matters, representing the company\’s interests and maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of health and safety programs, identifying non-compliance issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Act as the company\’s focal point for health and safety communications, promoting awareness campaigns, organizing training sessions, and ensuring effective dissemination of information.
- Travel off-site to clients, contractors and engineers on routine visits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience in Health and Safety in the industry or a related field, with a strong understanding of safety requirements and regulations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear and concise safety briefings, training sessions, and written reports.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with the capability to identify potential risks, evaluate hazards, and develop practical solutions.
- Proactive and self‑motivated with the ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software for data analysis and reporting.
- Professional certifications such as IOSH membership (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) or other relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
Person Specification
- Problem solving ability.
- Resilience – being able to handle resistance and/or complaints.
- IT literate (Microsoft office).
- Strong listening, verbal, written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be self‑driven and pro‑active.
- Valid Driving Licence.
Other Details
- Based in Wickford, with occasional travel to sites – a full UK driving licence is required.
- H&S experience and ideally a NEBOSH qualification
- Monday to Friday, 08:00‑17:30 (30‑minute break)
- £33,000 per annum
