Are you a professional Assistant Chef but tired of working unsociable hours? We may have the ideal role for you! We are recruiting for an experienced Assistant Chef to work for a residential care home based in Southend on Sea, Essex. To assist in managing an efficient and effective quality catering service in accordance with resident requirements, statutory regulations and organisational standards.
Salary: £25,126 per annum. Shifts are Monday to Friday 7am-3pm and 10am-6pm. Working alternate weekends.
Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, preparing and serving a varied set of menus that support the delivery of high-quality catering services that cater for individual needs, including special diets.
- Ensure local and legislative procedures are followed so that resident and service users\’ needs are met and are in accordance with food hygiene and safety standards.
- Assist in submitting orders and managing stocks and supplies to ensure that menus can be delivered, and the kitchen works within relevant budgetary levels and in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures.
- Ensure an understanding of and have access to the Food Safety System. This may include some approvals in the system in line with agreed procedures.
- Deputise in the absence of the Head Chef, including attending meetings.
- Assist with the Departmental Budget and where appropriate make recommendations to support financial decision making. Responsible for supervision of staff.
Qualifications
- Qualifications or membership to a Registered Body.
- Level 2 / NVQ2 in Professional Cookery.
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Level 2 / NVQ2 Diploma in Catering and Hospitality.
- Proven experience of undertaking a similar role.
- Experience in operating of catering machinery.
- Experience of online stock purchasing systems.
- Experience of working in a care/support setting an advantage.
- Good communication and customer care skills.
- Basic Microsoft Word/Excel, Email/internet communications.
This requires a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
