This Field Service Calibration Engineer for RF & Microwave Test & Measurement Instruments is responsible for ensuring electronic test and measurement equipment remains accurate, compliant and fully operational through calibration and validation activities, across various customer premises. Working predominantly at customer sites across the UK, you will calibrate both manufacturer and third-party electronic instrumentation used within highly regulated industries including aerospace, defence, communications, semiconductor and advanced technology sectors. This is a hands-on technical role that combines problem solving, customer interaction and independent working, making it ideal for someone with experience in electronic test and measurement calibration who enjoys working in varied customer environments.

Role Overview

  • Calibrate and validate RF and microwave electronic test and measurement equipment to defined procedures and recognised standards.
  • Carry out calibration activities on both manufacturer and third-party instrumentation at customer locations.
  • Ensure equipment maintains the required levels of functionality, accuracy and compliance.
  • Diagnose technical issues and resolve a broad range of calibration and instrumentation problems using sound technical judgement.
  • Produce accurate calibration records, certificates and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with customers both face to face and in writing to understand technical requirements and provide updates.
  • Answer customer technical queries with confidence and professionalism.
  • Plan and manage on-site calibration activities whilst maintaining excellent levels of customer service.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites throughout the UK, with travel expected to exceed 75% of the role.
  • Follow all quality, environmental and health & safety procedures whilst working both independently and at customer facilities.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Technical qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience calibrating electronic Test & Measurement equipment with particular knowledge of RF and Microwave instrumentation.
  • Certification or experience as an Electronic or Electrical Technician.
  • Good understanding of calibration principles and measurement uncertainty.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Confidence when interacting directly with customers and explaining technical information.
  • Ability to identify potential issues proactively and implement practical solutions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
