Teaching Assistants – Secondary SEMH & SEN Support Location: Derby City and surrounding areas Hours: Full-time long-term placements or flexible day-to-day supply term time only between the hours of 8,30am until 3.30pm Contract: Ongoing supply / temporary basis Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the Role We are looking for dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to support secondary-aged pupils with challenging behaviour, Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Special Educational Needs (SEN) across schools and alternative provisions in the Derby City area. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve their potential. Roles are available on both a long-term full-time basis and flexible day-to-day supply, giving you the chance to choose what works best for you. Key Responsibilities * Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and SEND needs. * Assist with classroom management and behaviour strategies. * Help pupils develop confidence, resilience, and social skills. * Support teachers in delivering tailored learning activities. * Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families. * Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. Requirements * Experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH, or SEN needs. * A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach. * Strong communication and relationship-building skills. * Ability to adapt to different settings and pupil needs. * Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
