Introduction
Our caretaker apprentice will work within the maintenance team to support the maintenance and repair of the school. The Apprentice will work on fault finding, maintaining and upgrading fittings and fixtures, and supporting breakdown investigations and repairs.

What You'll Do
Key responsibilities in the role of Caretaker include: Participate in and ensure that the site is kept clean and tidy inorder to minimise risks to the health and safety of those usingthe school site, and to ensure the activities of the school cantake place in an environment suited to learning
Contribute to maintaining the site in a good state of repair andmaintaining heating and lighting, to minimise risks to the healthand safety of those using the school site and to ensure that theactivities of the school take place in an environment suited tolearning
Where required and/or trained to undertake emergency and firstline repairs e.g. electrical work, plumbing and heating, paintingand decorating, carpentry and joining, glazing etc
Liaise with the Lead Caretaker in the preparation of long andshort term maintenance programmes
Secure all school buildings and set alarm systems when school isnot in use to protect the building and its contents, and providesafe access to buildings and classrooms in the event of snow,minor floods and similar emergency situations, initiatingemergency services procedures when needed
Responsible for holding keys to the school premises, lock andunlock at appropriate times, prevent trespass and the parking ofunauthorised vehicles within the premises
Have responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of adesignated area of the school. Manage any health & safetyissues or general repairs required. Once expenditure isauthorised make arrangements with contractors as necessary.
Refer to the Lead Caretaker or Estates Manager if necessary
Establish and maintain monitoring procedures to ensure that theschool site is kept in a good state of repair, clean, safe andstocked with all necessary cleaning and maintenance supplies.Take responsibility for raising any issues initially with the LeadCaretaker, the staff concerned or with the contractor asappropriate to achieve improved performance
Contribute to the Trusts objectives of contribute towards theTrusts objectives of ensuring the safety and security of all schoolusers and visitors and achieving greater value for money in themaintenance of the buildings and site through, for example, themanagement and monitoring of utility services and advising onincreased efficiency of the service inspections/fault finding

Working Arrangements
