THE ROLE: This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced regulatory lawyer to join a well-established regulatory organisation in a senior leadership position. Working at the heart of a highly respected legal function, you will provide strategic oversight of complex Fitness to Practise casework delivered by external legal providers, ensuring investigations, case preparation, and hearing outcomes consistently meet the highest professional and regulatory standards. Acting as a trusted source of expert legal advice, you will lead on complex, sensitive and high-risk matters, providing clear direction on legal strategy, risk management and decision-making. Alongside managing and developing a team of legal professionals, you will play a key role in shaping the organisation’s approach to regulatory enforcement and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will oversee the performance, quality and compliance of external legal providers, using management information and performance data to drive effective case progression, resource planning, and service delivery. Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across the organisation, you will contribute to governance, quality assurance, policy development and wider organisational strategy, whilst deputising for senior leadership when required.
THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience and significant expertise within a Fitness to Practise or regulatory environment. You will possess exceptional technical legal knowledge, sound judgement, and extensive experience advising on complex regulatory investigations and proceedings. Previous experience leading or managing legal professionals, together with overseeing the performance of external legal providers, is essential. You will be an effective communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, balance competing priorities, and deliver pragmatic legal solutions in a fast‑paced regulatory environment. Experience gained within a public sector or professional regulatory organisation would be advantageous.
THE PACKAGE: This hybrid opportunity offers an excellent work‑life balance, with just 1–2 days per week spent in the London office and the remainder working remotely.
