Overview
In this role you will join a national Insurance, Risk & Regulatory team to handle a mix of contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters. You will work on investigations, prosecutions, compliance guidance, and crisis management across diverse sectors, supporting clients through challenging regulatory scenarios. The position offers collaboration within a well-regarded firm and opportunities for progression. You will help counsel clients on regulatory risks, while mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to business development. This is a high-stakes, impact-focused role at a leading national practice.
Responsibilities
- Advise on investigations and prosecutions by regulatory bodies (HSE, Police, Environment Agency, Local Authorities, Fire Authorities, CQC)
- Handle health and safety matters including corporate manslaughter and regulatory offences
- Oversee fire safety investigations and prosecutions
- Address environmental, food safety, and product/consumer regulation issues
- Support clients through inquests, public inquiries, and internal investigations
- Provide regulatory compliance and risk management guidance
- Build client relationships and contribute to business development
- Mentor junior lawyers within the team
Key requirements
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 5 years PQE
- Strong background in regulatory law
- Experience handling complex regulatory investigations and prosecutions
- Ability to manage own caseload with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and commercial awareness
- Ability to build lasting client relationships
- Advantageous: experience in Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Environmental Law, Food Safety, Product & Consumer Regulation, Privately Funded Criminal Defence, Public Inquiries, Licensing (HMO)
- Advantageous: advocacy experience in Magistrates or Crown Court
